Are you new to St Michael’s by-the-Sea? Are you interested in getting an introduction to the essentials of the catholic faith? The Catechumenate course is designed to help orient new parishioners to the fundamentals of Christian faith and the Anglo-Catholic tradition, as well as to provide instruction for individuals who wish to receive the sacraments of baptism or confirmation, or to reaffirm their faith.
The Catechumenate course is an 8-week program, taking place on Wednesday evenings. One session takes place in the fall, and it repeats in the winter. We meet from 7 pm to 8:30 pm in the St. Michael’s library. The primary instructors are Fr. Doran Stambaugh and Dr. Holly Ordway.
Winter 2012 Session dates:
January 25
February 1, 8, 22, 29
March 7, 14, 28
The topics that will be covered include: Salvation history, the Trinity, the Incarnation of Our Lord, the sacraments, liturgy (also known as “why we do what we do”!), stewardship, and prayer. Our central objective for the Catechumenate remains the same. The entire class is designed toward the objective that each participant will more fully and deeply:
Relate with God the Father, through Jesus Christ,
in the power and unity of the Holy Spirit,
both individually and corporately.
To register for the 2012 Winter Adult Catechumenate, please click here, or register in person at the first class (Jan. 25). The fee is $20 (for books and materials) and can be mailed or brought into the church office, or paid at the first class. Please make checks payable to St. Michael’s, and write “Catechumenate” on the memo line.
